       _ NEW
YORK, Aug. 23. - A large crowd
gathered at Madison Square Garden last
night to see the boxing tournement.
Amoung the spectators present were two
ladies who attracted no little attention.
      _ Several
bouts had been arranged be-
tween some of the lesser lights in the pu-
gilistic firmament, the principal one being

a go between Con Coughlin, the Irish
heavyweight, and Con Riordan of San
Francisco. They are both big men and
their contest was short and sweet.
      _ Riordan
knocked Coughlin out in 65
seconds.
      _ The
final bout of the evening was be-
tween George Dixon and Billy Plimmer.
      _ After
sparring a few seconds for an
opening Plimmer planted his left in
Dixon's wind and a second later ducked
a nasty lefthanded swing. Dixon went at
his man with a will, but found Plimmer
right there before him.
      _
Plimmer led and landed and was caught
a few seconds later by a right and left
from Dixon. Plimmer kept smashing
Dixon when and where he pleased and set
the house in an uproar. Dixon did not
appear able to land although he made
some vicious lefthand swings.
      _
Plimmer fought like an old and well-
trained professional, giving Dixon the best
fight he has ever had since he met Cal Mc-
Carthy. Plimmer fought back in an able
manner and gave his opponent as good as
he got. He fought Dixon all over the
ring, and every time Dixon led with his
left he only succeeded in sending it around
Plimmer's neck. The crowd cheered when
Plimmer was given the decision.
