Limit fires to campsite fireplaces 5. Maintain quiet between 10pm and 6am 6. Do not shoot in or near recreation sites, trails or roads 7. Limit stay to 7 consecutive days per calendar year 8. No reserving campsites. Camping is on a first come basis 9. No ORV use within campgrounds or on campground roads 10. Use of all fireworks prohibited 11. Chainsaw use is prohibited in the campgrounds All organized events require a DNR permit Call Central Region Office at 360-748-2383 MARGARET McKENNY (Historic Sign #1) Miss Margaret McKenny for whom this site is named, an ardent conservationist, author of many wildlife books, and a noted mushroom authority and photographer, has given freely of her time to conservation causes and to the teaching of children. Her father, General T.J. McKenny, served as a Brigadier-General in the Civil War and as Superintendent of Indian Affairs in Washington Territory 1867-1870 This Recreation Site, on the banks of Waddell Creek, was the early home of Stephen Decatur Wynn and George H. Sturdevant families who settled here in the 1890's and cleared this area for a homesite. During the 1930's the sands of Waddell Creek were panned for gold. BEAR FACTS There have been multiple unconfirmed accounts of bear activity on or near the trails accessed by the trailhead at this campground.
