Once upon a time you might not see
another person here, still not many
crowds. The campground is on the
edge of a lava flow, with a wall of lava
about 70' high extending into Davis Lake.
This is one of our favorite campgrounds.

Lava Fields
There were eagles in the trees, but they refused
to cooperate for any photos.

There were two bald eagles up in the trees,
but didn't get any good photos.

You can walk in the lava fields, but be
careful of shifting rocks. It is a good idea
to wear gloves.

Davis Lake

There is an underground river beneath
the lava flow. Standing next to the edge
you can feel a cool breeze blowing.

If the main campground is full, which is
doubtful, follow the spur in the road and
there will be more campsites and areas along
the lake. Picnic tables, firepits, and outhouses.
NOTE: This area closed to protect eagle
habitat from January 1 through August 31

Continue on Road#850 and there are
some dispersed campsites.

There is a new sign that says
"This Area Patrolled by Law Enforcement"
Try to intimiadate poor honest citizens
We have actually never seen any law
enforcement officers out here... never
seen any crime or bad people... limited
litter... just some fishermen and boaters.

BEAR FACTS
This is bear country, while no evidence of bears,
still be careful and keep a clean camp.

About 1/4 mile of dirt road.

ROAD CONDITIONS:
Paved roads.
The last 1/4 mil;e is dirt road with washboards

is a deep source well and the water is cool,
clean and refreshing.

Bald Eagle at Wickiup Reservoir

We have seen several bald eagles in this area.
The biggest bald eagle we ever saw was at the
junction of Road#44 and Road#4260. He was
on the beach and when he spread his wings was
the most incredible sight... must of been an 8-10'
wing span as he stood tall and brave for what
seemed like an eternity.
