Petroglyphs cover the boulders by the thousands.
The experience is forever burned into your

the history and what different petroglyphs
represent. Animals are a common theme.

Painted Rock Campground
Painted Rock Campground has picnic
tables,
metal firerings and outhouse. Campground is
next to the Painted Rock Petroglyphs. Rough
desert conditions, bring your own water.

Old Adobe Structure
North from Painted Rock
The maps show the road to Hyder is
south
of the Petroglyphs. It is actually north from
the Petroglyphs. Continue on the paved surface
about another 1/2 mile. When the pavement
ends, you will see the above Adobe Structure.

There are some dispersed camp areas
on
Rocky Point Road and Hyder Road. Usually
we camp on Saddle Road. Saddle Road follows
the railroad tracks and powerlines, with more
secluded areas and pullouts. ..

Lava Fields and Volcanic Landscapes
The geology is of a volcanic nature.
There are
cinder domes and lava flows, but what is most
noticeable, are the rocks that litter the desert floor.
For miles are these basketball sized rocks that
must of been tossed here in a volcanic event.

Lights that filled the sky
Lights filled the night sky... It is easy
to
imagine an invasion from Mars, but just
military manuvuers.
